"Blessed beyond what I deserve." Not really.

by Kevin Doohan

I saw a friend of a friend's status last week that went something like this: "Great job, wonderful family, sunshine and rainbows every day... I'm blessed beyond what I deserve."

Comments like that bug me. I think you generally earn what you get. Be proud of your efforts and the rewards that follow. Or be bummed about your misfortune and figure out how to behave differently for different future outcomes. Sure luck plays a part but luck is "when preparation meets opportunity" right? So again... you've probably earned much of the luck (or lack of it) that you have.

Instead of "I'm blessed beyond what I deserve." consider trying "I appreciate the happiness and success I have" and possibly adding "I'm proud of what (I, my team, my family, etc) has accomplished."  I bet it will feel better and, in my mind, it's more honest than calling earned success "blessings" and discounting what you deserve.

I'm just saying...
