I'm on the board of advisors for ad:tech. Part of the role is advising the team on direction for the event and the content at the San Francisco
and New York editions. I haven't presented in a while at ad:tech. This year,
I was invited to my first public speaking engagement since joining Machinima.
On November 8, I tackled the topic: "What You Don't Know About YouTube (and how it will
change your media plan)". Kevin Nalty (@nalts) was the moderator/host. Laura Lee, Head of Content/Entertainment
Partnerships at YouTube joined Kevin and I. It was a fun session. It was great to see old friends, make new ones, share my perspective on the
opportunity for advertisers (and creators) on YouTube, and to learn from the many top quality sessions the ad:tech team puts on.
I embedded a video filmed immediately after my panel below. I always love talking with Bethany (@bethanysimpson). She's the best. Watch for a special uninvited guest appearance from @nalts in the video...
I was invited to join the OMMA RTB (Real Time Buying) event on July 26, 2012 as a panelist on the closing panel: "RTB Sci-Fi Roundtable: Automation Everywhere, Data As Currency, and the Creeping Logic of RTB". Steve Smith of mediapost was our moderator and Jarvis Mak (@jarvismak) from RocketFuel and Jeremy Mason (@jeremymmason) from AudienceScience were my co-panelists.
I brought the perspective of an experienced brand marketer and advertising buyer to the panel. I haven't really used real-time buying for display or video. It's not as prominent in the mix for the type of video-heavy, brand advertising I led for the past four years at Red Bull. That said, I believe the implications of all the data available for advertisers and how it can/will be used for buying are HUGE. The conversation was interesting and I was honored to be invited to participate. I haven't found video or photos from the session online but if I do, I will post or link them here.
On June 26, 2012, I served as co-host with Bettina Sherick (@bettina) at the iMedia Entertainment Summit. It was a fun event. I shared a lot and I learned even more! The embedded video below is of our opening/welcome remarks. My part starts at 7:36 but Bettina's remarks are worth watching. She had an interesting take on today's challenges in historical context.
